The single location reduces multiple rental costs for the County and provides convenience for the public and department’s collaboration needs. During the design, numerous meetings were held with the Chairman and the departments in order to incorporate specific needs and adjacencies.
The departments with the most collaboration are located together and those with the most interaction with the public are located closest to the lobby. All department entries are located off the central two story lobby with three dimensional lettering for clear wayfinding.
Communication from departments to the public are channeled through a queuing solutions program. Customers sign in at the kiosks and wait comfortably in the two story lobby until their number is announced. Extra attention to detail, materials, and lighting was devoted to the lobby to enhance the first impression and experience of the guests.
Security was an important factor in the design as all customers must walk through a metal detector and have their belongings scanned through a screening system. Cameras are installed throughout the facility and site. Access control is provided on all entrances and vehicular gates to employee parking.
Glass panels were incorporated at all front counter clerk stations that have higher levels of interaction with the public to help address COVID-19 concerns. Durable and easily cleanable surfaces were used throughout including tile, solid surface counters, stainless partitions, and luxury vinyl tile.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Four new electric vehicle charging stations are now open for public use at the Madison County Service Center.
These level two ChargePoint electric vehicle charging stations were made possible in part by the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant (ECBG) program. This program is designed to assist local governments in implementing strategies to reduce energy use, cut carbon emissions, and improve energy efficiency.
The fee for user consumption costs $0.25/kwh and will provide approximately 25 miles of range per one hour of charging. Drivers may only use the charger for two hours at a time and will receive a notification on their phone from ChargePoint letting them know their time is up. If not moved within the hour, a $10 fee per additional hour will be charged.
