Located in Huntsville, Alabama, the Neaves-Davis Center for Children (NDCC) includes an intake department, probation department, and a secure juvenile detention center. The detention center houses youth awaiting court hearings, transfer to Alabama Department of Youth Services facilities or completion of court-ordered programs.

The facility features private sleeping rooms, activity and counseling spaces, a gym, visitation areas and medical and social service facilities. Advanced monitoring systems and facility design provide security and safety. Youth receive health assessments, crisis intervention, physical education and educational services through Huntsville City Schools, with instruction focused on remedial reading, language and math. Residents may practice their chosen religion, maintain family contact through visits, mail and phone calls, and receive three daily meals under National School Lunch Program guidelines.

The Intake Department’s primary responsibility is to receive juveniles that have been taken into custody by law enforcement. The Intake Department generates complaints and petitions, process referrals, and subsequently refer cases to the appropriate department for disposition. The Intake Department may choose to detain a child, place the child on non-judiciary probation, refer the child to another agency, or release the child to his/her parent(s) or guardian(s). The Intake Department is open 24/7 and makes the determination if a child is detained or released to their parent(s)/guardian(s).
