In February 2024, Alabama A&M University (AAMU) and the Commission signed a five-year agreement to establish a community farm near the university's campus to reduce food insecurity and strengthen research and local food systems. AAMU designated land for the farm on Meridian Street in Huntsville, Alabama. The Madison County Commission, under the leadership of District 6 Commissioner Violet Edwards, manages the daily operations with help from AAMU units such as the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
