THE SALES TAX DEPARTMENT OVERSEES THE FOLLOWING MADISON COUNTY TAXES ON BEHALF OF THE MADISON COUNTY COMMISSION

  • Beer & Wine Excise Tax
  • Liquor Privilege or License Fee
  • Motor Fuels (Gas) Excise Tax
  • Sales and Use Tax 
  • Tobacco Tax in the form of Tobacco Stamps

 

BEER & WINE EXCISE TAX

  • Click here for the Application for Beer Wine Excise Tax
  • For tax rate information please contact the Department at 256-532-3498 or at salestax@madisoncountyal.gov
  • Upon the proper completion of a Beer & Wine Excise Tax Application, pre-printed forms will be mailed out. Returns can be filed by using one of the following options:
    • Hand delivered to the physical address denoted above during regular office hours. 
    • Mailed to the mailing address denoted above.
  • Returns are due on or before the 15th of each month.

LIQUOR PRIVILEGE OR LICENSE FEE

  • New Liquor Privilege or License Fee accounts are set up during the alcohol licensing process with the Madison County Commission.

    • Information relating to the alcohol licensing process can be found here or by calling Michael Cline, Madison County Compliance Manager @ 256-532-3788
    • Upon approval, the applicant shall complete an Application for Liquor Privilege or License Fee. Click here for the application.
    • Upon the completion of a Liquor Privilege or License Fee Application, pre-printed forms will be mailed out. Returns can be filed by using one of the following options:
    • Hand delivered to the physical address denoted above during regular office hours. 
    • Mailed to the mailing address denoted above.
    • Returns are due on or before the 20th of each month.
  •  The annual license fee of $1,200 along with proof of DRAM Stop insurance coverage is due by October 1 of each year.

MOTOR FUELS (GAS) EXCISE TAX

  • Upon the proper completion of a Motor Fuels (Gas) Excise Tax Application, pre-printed forms will be mailed out. Returns can be filed by using one of the following options: 
    • Hand delivered to the physical address denoted above during regular office hours.
    • Mailed to the mailing address denoted above.
    • Via the Alabama Motor Fuels Single Point Filing system - https://myalabamataxes.alabama.gov/
  • Returns are due on or before the 20th of each month.

 Sales and Use Tax Information

County-Wide Tax

Applies to all areas within Madison County, including Redstone Arsenal.

  • General Rate is ½%
  • Automotive Rate is ¼%
  • Agricultural Machine Rate is ¼%
  • Manufacturing Rate is ¼%

 Additional County Tax

Applies to all areas within Madison County, including Redstone Arsenal, that are OUTSIDE the City Limits of Huntsville.

  • General Rate is 1%
  • Automotive Rate is ½%
  • Agricultural Machinery Rate is ½%
  • Manufacturing Rate is ½%

  • NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE A VALID MADISON COUNTY ACCOUNT NUMBER BEFORE FILING ONLINE.
