Location: Bob Harrison Wellness and Advocacy Center and the northern right-of-way along Pulaski Pike between New Cedar Point Drive and the Harrison Center entrance.

Project Description: This project will improve the Bob Harrison Wellness and Advocacy Center by making it more pedestrian friendly and upgrading it to be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant. Improvements at the Harrison Center include retrofitting existing curb ramps and adding handrail on steep entrances, additional handicap parking, and leveling of pavement to meet ADA slope requirements. Also, improvements will be made to the pavilion including additional handicap parking, new sidewalk to the mobile classrooms, and replacement of the wooden decks with ADA compliant concrete decks. In addition, approximately 2,200 linear feet of sidewalk and a pedestrian bridge over West Fork Pinhook Creek will be installed along Pulaski Pike and down the entrance of the Harrison Center tying into the pavilion.

Need for Project: The Harrison Center serves as the polling site for 3,400 registered voters and sees some 16,000 visitors annually of all ages and from all over the county.  Also, in implementing our COVID-19 Relief Initiative, it was found that many residents taking the bus were walking along Pulaski Pike when visiting the center for COVID-19 testing and vaccinations without appropriate sidewalks in place. This project will make the site more accessible, wheelchair friendly location.
