Madison County Commission International Trade Development Center
While today's businesses have unprecedented international expansion opportunities, they also face increased international competition both at home and abroad. Preparation is key to mitigating risk and capitalizing on these new opportunities. Beginning or expanding export operations can be challenging, and the International Trade Development Center (ITDC) is your partner in the global marketplace. ITDC, implemented in 1983 and operated through the department of Planning and Economic Development, is part of the Madison County Commission's overall economic development effort. For more than 35 years, ITDC has managed and partnered with the non-profit North Alabama International Trade Association (NAITA) to provide international business counseling, training, and assistance to local small and medium sized businesses, resulting in increased international trade and business expansion in Madison County. ITDC is led by nationally designated Certified Global Business Professionals (CGBPs) experienced in fostering international business.
This public-private partnership has been recognized for excellence by the Governor of Alabama, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the International Economic Development Council.
Individualized consulting services for firms interested in developing and/or expanding export markets. Consultations may include an analysis of client needs and export potential, identification of market entry alternatives, assistance in international strategic planning and response to problem-specific requests such as export licensing and protocol issues. ITDC and NAITA work directly with U.S. and foreign governments to assist our local firms, as well as serving as a liaison with the Export Alabama Alliance and other state, local, and federal resources to keep the business community informed and compliant with current regulations and trade policy.
Export Launch Initiative
Led by ITDC and NAITA in partnership with HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology and the Export Alabama Alliance, the Export Launch Initiative focuses on the growing global biotech sector and educates and mentors Madison County biotech companies in developing proactive export plans. In the inaugural event, four finalist companies were invited to participate in a pitch competition, and with the support of our private sector partners, one small business at HudsonAlpha – was awarded $5,000 for qualified export-related expenses to expand markets overseas.
