The minimum driving age in Alabama is 16. However, there are certain exceptions and restrictions:

Certified Birth Certificate
School Enrollment Form-If you are 19 and older, you will be exempt from this form.
Social Security Card

16 years of age but under 18, must have a valid Learner’s License for 6 months before taking road test.

Madison County offices cannot perform any testing for first-time issuances.
County Offices only process renewals and replacements of current Alabama Driver License and Non-Driver ID cards. All testing is handled by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency(ALEA).

Madison County is not equipped to access the state’s appointment calendar, administer testing, process out-of-state license transfers, or handle the first-time issuance of driver's licenses or non-driver ID cards. $36.25 Learners Permit, valid for 4 years
