INMATE CLOTHING/PROPERTY

Inmates booked into the Madison County Jail, will have all their personal effects inventoried and stored.

Beginning March 1st, 2008 the Madison County Detention Facility will no longer store personal property for anyone held in the Madison County Detention Facility longer than 30 days. All persons currently being held in the Madison County Detention Facility, regardless of housing assignment, should make arrangements for a friend or family member to pick up their personal property prior to the 30th day of incarceration. Any personal property held longer than 30 days will be disposed of and / or donated to a local charity. It is your responsibility to contact those individuals that you want to pick up your property. Inmates who are released from the jail and have not had their personal belongings picked up have 14 days to recover any items left at the jail. Items left past the 14 day deadline will be donated to local charities.

Family members may pick up items of housed inmates seven (7) days a week, 24 hours a day. Any person attempting to pick up property must have a valid form of photo identification.

Exceptions to disposal are as follows:

  • Wallet and contents
  • Keys
  • Cellular phone
  • Jewelry
  • Identification
  • Legal Documents
  • Purse and contents

These items will be maintained in storage for housed inmates until release.

After the 30th day of custody, should you require clothing for your felony trial you are responsible for insuring that someone brings suitable clothing to the Sheriff’s office for you to wear to court and returns to pick up those clothes after your trial is completed.

Civilian clothing for inmates going to court (jury trial only) will be accepted in the Sheriff’s Office, Room 206, on the second floor of the Madison County Courthouse. Clothes are to be brought between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. on the morning the trail is to begin. Once a court case has ended the clothing must be picked up as soon as possible from the Sheriff’s Office.
